  • Part of the Knox group of companies, Pathfinder is a Tax Dispute practice operating from offices in London, Manchester and Birmingham. We hit the ground running with our direct approach to finding success. An emphasis on solutions and the resolution of any type of tax investigation, we offer our clients the full package.

    John Horler

John has over 25 years of experience undertaking tax investigations and enquiries of all types.  He was an ex-Inspector of Taxes and has over 10 years’ experience within HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC).  During his time there John worked in local districts, the Large Business Service (LBS) and latterly within Specialist Investigations (SI).

After leaving HMRC he spent another 10 years in the Tax Investigations practice of a ‘Big 4’ firm before launching his own venture, which was the bedrock of Pathfinder. John is renowned as a tax technical expert on matters relating to tax enquiries and investigations and has also written tax training courses and enjoys presenting at seminars.

He has worked extensively on all types of enquiries from Hansard, or Code 9, now renamed Contractual Disclosure Facility cases or CDF, through Code of Practice 8 cases, to local compliance cases within local offices or Large & Complex or High Net Worth Units (HNWU). John can also assist with cases under the Liechtenstein Disclosure Facility (LDF), and the new Swiss and Offshore Island Disclosure routes.

    Mike Burrows

Mike is an ex-Senior Inspector of Taxes, having begun his career in the Inland Revenue where he served for 27 years. His final position was as Assistant Director (Compliance) for Wales and West Midlands. During his time with the Revenue, he was mainly involved in undertaking serious tax investigations (under Code 8 and Code 9), with what was then called the Special Compliance Office (SCO), which has now evolved into the Specialist Investigations Unit, and in the areas of multi-national tax structures and offshore jurisdictions. Since leaving the Inland Revenue, Mike has enjoyed senior roles at Arthur Anderson and Tenon within their tax investigations and risk assurance departments. Holding a senior management post within Pathfinder he specialises in defending clients against HMRC investigations, forensic accounting and offshore tax structures and planning.

Lindsey has been managing and overseeing HMRC enquiries on behalf of contractor clients since April 2012. By 2015 her firm implemented a full tax investigations department which Lindsey went on to manage. She has now joined Pathfinder as Tax Investigations Manager and handles a wide portfolio of tax investigation, tax dispute and tax disclosure cases.

By 1998 he had specialised in Corporate Finance becoming a Partner in a practice offering independent advice to the owner-managed business sector. Tim became a Partner of Aston Ventures in 2004, a Private Equity business, managing a portfolio of businesses as a Non-Executive Director.
